I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before, but I thought it was interesting and wanted to share.

I had ordered a dress for my Kirsten a few weeks ago and had trouble getting her to fit into it. It was so tight the velcro would not close in back. I finally today got around to calling AG customer service about it and when I explained the problem, the rep asked me to measure Kirsten. I told her I was at work and didn't have her with me and could do it later, but when I asked why she wanted to know she said this is becoming a big problem with tight dresses not fitting dolls. More often than not it is due to the doll being overstuffed. She gave me the measurements of what the dolls should be, and said that if she was bigger than she should be I should send her in for "liposuction" at the doll hospital. I am under the impression it is free because it is not advertised that they do it, and she said that it would be an error on their part in the stuffing.

I also think they have begun doing this because people found out calling and saying a dress doesn't fit was a way to get a new dress since AG doesn't want a defective dress back, so people might call up and say a dress doesn't fit so they can get a new one to either give as a gift or sell or something.

Anyways, I'm going to measure my girls tonight and see how they rate with how they should be. If anyone is interested in the measurements I would be happy to post them as well.

Yes, please post the "ideal measurements" that the AG rep gave you. They will be useful for the sewers in the group (although I guess we could measure our dolls ourselves).

That is too funny. You would have thought that they would have discovered that the dolls were too fat. Some people have talked about skinny and fat AG dolls. That must be what they are talking about. Even if people were calling about defective dresses, wouldn't they have to return the defective one to get the new one. So they really don't gain much by making a false claim.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I thought so too Lieu, but from what others have posted here (and if anyone out there knows from experience please let me know if I am wrong) that if you call and say a dress does not fit and ask for a label to send it back, they will send you a new one (usually no questions asked) and tell you to donate the old one to a women's shelter or a useful charity as they have no use for a dress that does not fit their dolls. They can't in good faith turn around and resell it, or even donate it to the Madison sale if it doesn't fit the standard AG doll. If you just have one doll the dress does not fit, it's a problem with the doll; if the dress fits none of your dolls chances are it's a problem with the dress itself and then they don't want it. Make sense?

The measurements for all the talented seamstresses out there or the just plain curious:

* The doll herself is (obviously) 18" tall
* The chest (just under the armpit) should be 10 1/2" to 11 1/2" across
* The waist (which is 3 1/2" down to the center of the doll) is supposed to be 10 3/4" across, but should be within 10 1/4" to 11" and still be okay
* The hips (just above the leg joint) should be 12" to 12 1/2"

Likewise, I would like to know if they offer a weight gain program where if your doll is smaller than should be they can add to her stuffing. I would guess that wouldn't be as necessary because it doesn't impact how the clothes fit as much.

I am curious to see how my girls measure up and hear what other people have to say about their own!

Editing this to say that the rep (who was very helpful BTW) also said that the reason for such a wide variety of sizes in the dolls is because they are handstuffed. Very strange I thought! I would have imagined this done with a machine.

We have an "overstuffed" Molly. She is absolutely adorable. I had an entire wardrobe custom-made for her because the AG 'Molly' outfits are too tight.
She is unique in her own right. It is one thing to be a bigger girl: But is entirely another to feel bad about it! My daughter does not want this doll to be thinner.
Since this doll currently represents 60% of Americans, She is endearing to me.
Now, IF anyone here has an 'overstuffed' Kit, Samantha, or Kailey, Please consider selling them to me before you send them in for 'bariatric surgery'!

Thanks much for those measurements! That will help immensely in adjusting older doll dress patterns (like Saucy Walker and Chatty Cathy) to fit the AG's.

I think all of my dolls are overstuffed (except Addy) as all of their clothing is tight. I have a honey blonde AGOT who is known in our house as Katie. Katie is way overstuffed and since she is and will always be our irish lass, we jokingly say that katie ate too many potatoes (no offense intended as I am of Irish German descent). Katie wears custom jumpers from our local Women's Exchange.

I am going to measure my dolls against the reommended proportions and see how they all plot out on the growth chart. Thanks so much for posting the measurements.

I will try to measure my dolls later. But I looked at them last night and none of them seemed overstuffed to me. I don't change their clothes, so I would not know that. Both Kaya and Felicity have stayed in their "meet" outfits and the AGoT is wearing Vietnamese clothes that is none AG brand. But they all looked normal bodies when I took off their clothes. It must be luck of the draw.

I measured my two "chunkiest" girls this morning (both AGoT). One is 1/8" under AG's maximum for both chest and hip measurements, but her waist is in low-mid range. The other is right exactly the same measurements as the AG max for all three. No wonder the clothes are a little bit snug on her!
